Sisal Rope Vase

I bought this huge vase  a couple of years ago, I planned to spray paint it, but just never got around to it. It was sooo crazy 1980s teal. I saw a expensive basket vase in a store and I knew then how I could make that crazy vase taking up space in my basement awesome!

Materials needed:  Large vase, 250 ft (2 1/2 rolls) Blue Hawk Twisted Sisal Rope for landscaping from Lowes, hot glue & gun, brown spray paint, Mini Wax Wood Finish Stain Spray Paint in Early American #230.

Spray paint the vase with brown spray paint and let it dry overnight. Start wrapping and hot gluing the rope at the top edge. Make the rows as close together as you can get them. As you can see mine needed to be a little closer. Oops….oh well I still love it… hey, it adds character!  Then I went back and wrapped the rope on the inner vase opening last.

Spray vase with the Wood Finish to stain the rope. Wear a glove and rub it in after each coat. I used the whole can. Love that they make this stain in a spray can! That’s it! Soo easy and that 80′s vase looks so much better! Welcome to the 21st century!

**I used stain to make it look more like a basket, instead of using spray paint that would hide the look of the twisted rope.**

  11. Love your vase! I didn’t realize they make stain in a spray can! Awesome! I’ve always avoided stain because it was so messy and looked hard to use. I think I could so do that!

    Thanks for sharing your project!
