Bracelet Styling & Restyling

Turn Necklaces into Bracelets madeinaday.com

Here is a cute a way to make some new bracelets out of necklaces that I bought on a whim. I have been making jewelry for years, but when I was a teenager the cheapest way to make something great was by taking apart old out dated jewelry to make something new.

This is a great way to transform something you loved but never got much wear, into a great new updated piece of jewelry. I also threw in a couple of new bracelets from some great new beads I found.

Supplies:

  • Random necklaces
  • Soft Flex Medium Stainless Steel Nylon Coated Wire 20 lb test diameter .019 in. 30 ft string
  • Crimp tubes or beads (I used a 2mm bead)
  • Flat needle nose pliers
  • Crimping pliers
  • Jump rings
  • Clasp

The necklaces are super easy to change-up. Just bend the jump rings with your pliers and remove the chains.

Measure for your wrist and reattach your plain jump ring to one end and the clasp to the other using needle nose pliers.

Super easy and looks great!

DIY Grey & Yellow BraceletMake a bracelet from beads.

add a jump ring seed bead

First take your wire, a crimp bead and a jump ring. Cut the wire to around 11 inches. Add crimping bead, add the jump ring then insert the wire end back into the bead. Crimp aka. smash your bead with your crimping pliers (for a better explanation of this process~ See videos below).

add clasp with seed bead

Add your beads and then do the same for the other end of the bracelet adding the clasp.

Instead of getting really deep on how to crimp a bead, I provided a couple of videos with step by step explanation of this process. I don’t know about you but I learn by watching someone else. These two videos are great examples of the crimping process.

Once you get the hang of it you can make almost anything!

  2. Thanks so much for giving us an idea of where to start. I love jewelry…it’s a passion of mine! And I buy vintage bracelets and enjoy wearing them. This would be even better! Hugs!

  3. These “new from old” bracelets are so pretty! I do just a little bit of beading, but I love that whole concept of creating new from the old or vintage. I had a dear neighbor at our previous home who was such a whiz at doing just that. She made pins and earrings from vintage jewelry and newer pieces, too. I have many of her lovely sets.

    1. Thanks so much for the kind comment~ I am glad you liked my idea! I have also taken vintage pieces and made necklaces out of the beads. I also made necklaces to sell, if you go to my FB page https://www.facebook.com/madeinaday click on the photos tab, I have a Bead Album with them in there if you would like to see them. They have all been sold though. In the near future I may make and sell them on Etsy again.
