DIY Vintage Suitcase Bar Table Tutorial madeinaday.com

I bought this super cute Vintage Monarch Suitcase at Goodwill a couple of weeks ago for a whopping $1.99! I knew I wanted to make a cute conversation piece out of her, but I was not sure what to do. I loved the color, so I didn’t want to paint it.

While going over emails this morning I spied one of my old spray paint projects looking a little ho hum in my kitchen. Amazing enough it was the almost the same color as my suitcase. So I joined the two together to make this cute Vintage Suitcase Table Bar. This was a super easy project, literally all you need is some bolts and a drill! Here’s how I did it~

Supplies:

Instructions:

Telphone table to suitcase barThe old table before.

Remove table hardwareThe first thing I did was remove the old railing hardware from the top of the table so the suitcase has a flat surface to bolt onto.

how to make a suitcase tableTurn the table and suitcase upside down and measure so that the table is in the center of the suitcase. Mark four drill holes evenly on the under side of the table. My table already had holes from the railing hardware I removed so I used them.

Note**If you need to make your own holes, draw a circle around the edge of the table on the bottom of your suitcase. Then mark your holes and drill using a 1/4 drill bit on the marked areas through the suitcase. Lay the suitcase on the table and mark the holes with a pen onto the wood table top and drill your holes through the table.

So easy and I can’t believe I did not have to paint it! I was thinking of going with black or white and I still might. If I decide to upgrade the table, I will post it here! I am also thinking of tons of other uses for this cutie. Maybe in a party setting for plates and silverware. Or even a plant holder outside on the deck. I hope you liked this super easy craft! Enjoy!

  1. I LOVE this! I am obsessed with Vintage luggage. I stack it and use it to store my Etsy inventory. Also my local thrift store had end tables made with some 40s Samsonite cases for 50% off so I HAD to get two 🙂 The bar table is so clever–I’m impressed! Blessings, Cecilia

  2. This is amazing. I have an old suitcase that was my grandparents. My mother gave it to me after they passed. I have been using it to store and display Christmas decorations. I think I should use it for this. Then it would be displayed all the time!

  3. I just popped back to say thanks for sharing your post at the Say G’day Saturday linky party. I’m so thrilled you joined in! I’ve just pinned this & shared on G+.

Best wishes and have a great weekend!

  4. LOVE this idea. Every time I’m at the mall I stop at a very high end store that has a suitcase table I drool over. Featuring you when my link party opens up tonight.

  5. I love vintage luggage. I have one similar blue one that I use to travel my shop items in. I lined it with square baskets from the Dollar store to keep stuff organized. You bar looks wonderful! Great conversation piece for some fun cocktail parties.

  6. That is so clever-what a brilliant idea! It looks amazing, Kim!

If you have a minute to spare I’d be thrilled if you could share your post at my weekly Say G’Day Saturday linky party. It has just started and this would be a fabulous addition.

  7. I am always amazed at what people are doing with vintage stuff…alot of things from my “time”! I wish I could do this, but I just don’t have the talent.. I’m better at the needle and thread for memories! But I love your bar!

  8. This looks amazing and what a great way to repurpose the suitcase. If I see suitcases like this I immediatly buy them. I was lucky enough to purchase 3 at Goodwill for $5.99! These are great for decoupage and can be repurposed into some great furniture as you have done here! wonderful job! : )

    1. Thanks so much! That made me feel better…I really liked it until my husband came upstairs and said he just didn’t get it. Lol! Thanks for the support lol!
