One of my favorite bloggers Maysem of Ode To Inspiration made this fabulous faux cake, and I just fell in love with it! I loved her cake so much, I decided to make my own! I went with a beachy theme for mine since my decor lately has been leaning toward the seaside retreat look.

Supplies:

  • Round storage box
  • Linen muslin fabric
  • Burlap ribbon
  • Burlap ribbon strip
  • Fringe strip (cut from the edge of my muslin)
  • Light color rope twine
  • Decorative rocks
  • Starfish
  • Paper towels for the fabulous flowers (I used Bounty, they make the flowers really fluffy)
  • Spray paint primer
  • Mod Podge
  • Hot glue & gun
  • Rotary cutter & mat
  • Scissors

Instructions:

Spray paint the storage box first with primer to hide the pattern on it. Cut the fabric with the rotary cutter to perfectly fit your box. Paint Mod Podge on box, carefully place the fabric over it and smooth out the wrinkles. Trim the frays.

To make the top edge ribbon decor I used a sheer burlap stripped ribbon, gathered it and hot glued in a swag pattern. The bottom edge is the light twine rope, hot glued to edge.

Paper Towel Flowers

paper towel flowerI had a hard time coming up with a flower I could live with, and after trying almost every style out there, I grabbed a paper towel and miraculously it worked for me!!!

Fold the paper towel and cut heart-shaped cuts on the fold, leaving them connected on the fold. Pinch the middle folds together and hot glue them to make the flower. I added hot glued pinches of the burlap sheer ribbon as the leaves. I just love them they are light and airy, the natural texture was perfect!

Lastly, add a burlap strip to center and hot glue, I also had a fringe strip I added, but I like it both ways.  Sprinkle some decorative rocks, add a starfish and that’s it! So cute and now I can have a fabulous cake centerpiece for any occasion, just place some matching cupcakes around it to make a great party table!
