Don’t throw out those old pictures! Paint over them and make incredible wall art! See the Birch Tree Painting DIY I made from a thrift store printed canvas. For more fun makeovers see my Thrift Store Upcycle page.
Last week I posted my Gold Feather Wall Art, well here’s another easy DIY pic I added to my Gallery Wall series. I took a thrift store canvas, one of many that I have been collecting for awhile now for random projects around the house.
I painted the canvas a solid grey color, then hand painted some Birch trees and added a sweet heart using my Silhouette Cameo. Here’s how I made it!
Birch Tree Painting DIY
Supplies:
- A rectangular-shaped canvas
- Acrylic paint in white
- Black and grey
- Silhouette CAMEO {or you can just hand paint the heart or cut it out of gold scrapbook paper}
- Silhouette Printable Gold Foil
- Sponge applicators and brushes
Instructions:
Paint the canvas with grey acrylic paint with a sponge applicator.
It took around three coats to get it completely covered. Paint the edges of the canvas black. Let it dry overnight.
With a pencil draw the birch trees first. Make sure one tree is larger than the rest so you can add your heart. I used a pic of the trees online as a guide.
Paint the birch trees white. Let them dry.
Paint the knots on the trees with the grey paint. Let it dry.
With your Silhouette find a heart design and then add your + text to the center of it. Cut it out using a mat and foil paper. Remove the heart and stick it to your painting. Or you could hand paint a heart with a gold paint pen.
And that’s it! I love this cute custom pic. It is a sweet addition to my Gallery Wall, the post for that is coming soon!
I hope you have enjoyed this easy birch tree painting DIY canvas makeover! This is a fun way to upcycle those old canvas throw aways into something worth keeping again!
