Makeover a simple plastic round mirror into an expensive looking coastal Jute Rope Mirror. This super easy DIY is just one of many of my fun Home Decor projects found on the blog.
I decided this year our powder room needed a facelift. I’ve had the same old stuff in there for the last 5 years and it was getting, well, pretty drab. I shopped around everywhere for just the right accessories.
I wanted a more natural, yet up to date stylish look to the room than the previous setting. In my decorative decor search, I just could not find the right wall art for this room, so I gave up. I ended up hanging this plain white round mirror in there for awhile, but it was just missing something.
Then one day it hit me, I’ll make a cool rope mirror. I saw one on the Ballard Designs website. I used the white plastic mirror as a base for the rope. This project was so easy and fast, it literally took 30 minutes to make. Now my powder room is complete. Here’s my version of how it’s done~
Jute Rope Mirror Ballard Inspired
Supplies:
- Mirror
- Metal Bucket Handle
- Natural sisal jute rope
- Hot Glue and Gun
Instructions:
Take the end of your jute rope, trim the end in a slant and start gluing your rope on the inner part of the circle frame. Add the glue to the back of the rope.
Once you get the inner circle done you can put the glue on the frame itself and press the ropes together as you wrap to keep them from gaping open. Continue gluing on until the end. Cut the end of your rope in a slant and tuck under or close to the rope above it.
Hot glue loops on the back top portion of the mirror and add your bucket handle. And that’s it! Super easy and so cute!

Hi Kim, this looks awesome, can you let me know where you got the plastic mirrors thanks much
Hi Ganesh,
This is a rally old post, I believe I bought the mirror at Walmart or possibly a thrift store.
Great idea, but I’d think I’d use some liquid nails for the hanger, I’d be afraid it wouldn’t hold…
No need to, this particular mirror is really lightweight plastic. Maybe on a larger one.
