Place a boiled egg into the center of a coffee filter and wrap it around the egg and secure it at the tip of the egg with a rubber band.
Put on your gloves and start with one color of food coloring and put one drop in random spots around the egg. Be aware that it will bleed.
Use different colors and go around the egg adding drops until the coffee filter is covered. The drops will spread so a little goes a long way.
Let the eggs sit in the coffee filters for 5-10 minutes.
Gently unwrap the eggs and pat them dry with a paper towel.
Set them on a cooling rack or paper towel to dry.
Notes
TIPS:
You can use whatever combination of colors you like. The colors mix and end up lighter than they go on. For example, red will look pink.
You can also use paper towels in place of coffee filters. The coffee filters were so much easier and worked better for color transfer. Paper towels will leave a pattern on the egg depending on the brand.
The longer you leave the eggs wrapped, the darker they get. They also get a little darker if you saturate them with a lot of dye.
