Halloween Chalk Art Cast a Spell

I found this neat little shutter mirror at my local thrift store and I knew it would make a great chalkboard. I painted it with a few coats of chalkboard paint. I am putting the finishing touches on my party decor, so I decided on this cute “Cast a Spell” quote to use.

I have seen some fantastic chalkboard art out there, but wow is it difficult to get the lettering straight and in line. Years ago, I used to paint murals and so it just so happens I have an “old-school” overhead projector. This makes writing on a chalkboard so much easier. You can find one at a school surplus store or even online. If you run across one, I recommend grabbing it. Those new high-end versions are super expensive, but even a kids version might do the trick!

Halloween Chalk Art “Cast a Spell”

Supplies:

  • Transparency paper for your printer
  • Overhead projector
  • Damp sponge
  • Chalk pens
  • Regular chalk and a printer

I headed on over to PicMonkey and made my wording using their Fantastic Halloween Fonts. I used the font’s “Emily’s Candy”, “October Crow” and added a cute spider. Print them out on the transparency paper. Add them to your projector and adjust the pic.

I tape my transparencies to the projector so they do not move once I get them placed just right. Take the chalk pen and outline the words. Turn the projector off and I free hand the rest. Use your sponge to fix the mistakes. And that’s it! Super easy professional looking chalk art!
