orange long sprinkles for nose
1 packTwizzlers licorice, pull and peel kindpull apart to make the scarf
20piecespretzel sticks, cut in halffor arms
mini M&M's for buttons
Instructions
Make the Cookies
Preheat the oven to 350℉
Line two baking sheets with parchment paper and set aside.
In the large mixing bowl for the the stand mixer, add the vanilla cake mix, melted butter, and eggs and beat on low until blended.
Use a small cookie scoop (or spoon) to drop 1 ½ tablespoon sized balls onto the baking sheets. Be sure to space them a few inches apart to leave room for the cookies to spread.
Bake for 8-10 minutes, until the cookie tops are set and it reaches desired doneness.
As the cookies bake, start making the snowman heads.
Allow the cookies and pan to cool completely before decorating.
Adding the Toppings
Melt 1-2 tablespoons of the white chocolate wafers in the microwave for 30 seconds and then 15 second intervals until is melted.
Use a toothpick or skewer to place small dots of the melted white chocolate for the eyes, nose, and mouth. Quickly add the tiny chocolate chips and orange sprinkles before the white chocolate dries. They are very small so you can use small kitchen tweezers if you have them otherwise carefully use your hands.
You can optionally add cute earmuffs to the snowman using Twizzlers licorice and M&M’s. You do have to hold the candy pieces in place until the chocolate fully dries so this step can take quite some time.
Once all the cookies have cooled, add about 1/2 of a tablespoon of melted chocolate and carefully cover the tops of each cookie. If some chocolate drips off the cookie, that is ok. We want the snowman to look as if it is melting.
Work in batches so that the chocolate does not dry before decorating.
Add the snowman head, pretzel arms, M&M buttons, and twizzler scarf to the cookie before the chocolate cools.
Let the chocolate set for 10-20 minutes or place them in the refrigerator to speed the process.
Notes
You can alternatively use decorative icing for the eyes and nose. It may save you some time than placing individual chocolate chips and sprinkles on. Or you can add orange and black food coloring to some white melting wafers and use that to decorate.
Use your own homemade cookie recipe or you can use any cookie base, even store bought, and just decorate the tops to be melting snowmen.
You can use any boxed cake mix flavor you like however if you use a bigger box you will need to adjust the amount of butter used in the recipe.
If you don’t have butter, use equal amounts of vegetable oil.
