Red food coloring
Flour for dusting
kitchen scissors, rolling pin and pizza cutter
Instructions
For the Skeleton:
Set your oven to 350 degrees. This is for both of the kinds of bread mentioned above. Dust your surface with flour.
Begin with the French Loaf. Pinch off 1/4 of the dough for the skull and set aside.
Using a rolling pin, roll out the remainder {body section of dough} until it is rounded and almost heart shaped on the top. Place dough on a baking pan. Roll the 1/4 head piece of dough into a circle and smash down with both of your thumbs, to make two eye holes.
Push one thumb into the center of dough for a nose. Shape the bottom of the head into a square shape and with your kitchen scissors cut 4 slits into the dough for teeth. Place dough on the baking pan.
Add black olives to the eyes and nose. Brush with egg whites. Bake 18 minutes.
To make the ribs, arms, hands, and legs. Take one roll of pizza dough placed on a flour dusted surface. Roll dough out with a rolling pin until the dough is 1/4 inch thick.
Cut the dough with a pizza cutter into bone shapes. The ribs are placed rounded onto the baking pan. For the arms and legs, take a thin strip of dough and cut a slit at the end of it. Roll back the ends to make them look like the top of a bone.
For the fingers take a square of dough and cut fingers into it using kitchen scissors. Bake for 12 minutes.
For the Breadsticks:
Cut random strips of the pizza dough with a pizza cutter. They do not have to be neat or even, in fact, the worse you cut them the better they are going to look. Bake for 12 minutes.
Cut the belly of the skeleton out with a sharp knife and fill with it dip! I added a few squirts of red food coloring for effect and then placed his ribs on top of the dip.
Place him altogether and he makes one eerie appetizer! Add your favorite Mariana in a small bowl and serve with the breadsticks! Enjoy!
