I have been on the lookout for the perfect shaped thrift store brass lamp. They look exactly like the popular wood spindle lamps you are seeing in the stores these days.
I found a lamp that was relatively new. I am so leary of old lamps with bad wiring. Who wants to burn the house down, right? I try to find ones with relatively new hardware. It is just easier not to have to rewire the lamp unless it is one that I can’t live without.
I painted this beauty with acrylic paint. I used a dry brush technique to get the faux wood grain pattern. Let me show you how easy it is to do!
DIY Faux Wood Spindle Lamp
- Brass Lamp
- Spray Paint Primer white
- Acrylic Pant: light brown, dark brown, white, grey
- Paint Sealant
- Blue Painters Tape
Spray paint the brass part of the lamp with primer. Let it dry over night.
Paint the lamp with a warm light brown paint.
Dry brush over the light brown with grey paint.
Dry brush dark brown on edges.
Dry brush white and grey mixed until desired faux wood finish. Remove the painters tape and seal with a spray enamel. Add a cool shade and that’s it!
I can’t believe how well this project turned out! It really is a great DIY and what an easy way get this trendy lamp for a fraction of the cost!
