Welcome to my bedroom refresh to open up and lighten a small home master bedroom. When we first moved into our home two years ago, I wanted to darken the room because it is super bright in the mornings when the sun comes up. Being near the ocean just seems to make the early morning sun so much brighter.

Previously I went with navy and orange in my master bedroom for a dramatic color pop. Have a look at that post so you see what I changed out. Well, I am over that look now and I want to bring a bright and airy fresh summer look to the space.

Green Gold and White Bedroom Refresh

Curtains

Let’s start with the window coverings. I wanted to still keep the room darkening curtains but in a lighter color to make the room look and feel bigger.

I found these beautiful velvet room darkening curtains from the same place I bought the orange ones in my previous post. They are room darkening but not as dark as the original orange ones I had. They are however working out for us. Plus I love the look of the velvet. It’s so soft and pretty.

Bedding

The next thing I searched for was the perfect coverlet. Finding the perfect one was so difficult. It took weeks of searching online to find just the right one. The problem I was having was I have a king-size bed and I needed the spread to be long and wide enough to be tucked under on the edges of our platform bed.

I found the perfect rattan look coverlet, the Owens Quilt, by Serena & Lily. It comes in California King sizes which gives it has plenty of room to tuck it under on all three sides. The fun pillows are Opalhouse Woven Throw Pillows.

This coverlet has the perfect pattern to pull the room together. It looks a little like rattan. It has a white base to brighten the room and pops of green in a circle pattern for a fresh floral feel. I love it so much!

Paint

I gave the walls a new bright white coat of paint. I did not choose a color shade I just went with Behr Marquee base paint color Ultra white to open up the space. I changed out all of the furniture including the bed and side tables, to grey and white furniture.

Bed & Side Tables

We traded out our queen-size bed for a king-size. We just couldn’t handle the smaller bed. In order to save our marriage, we opted to lose space in the room. We went with Room & Boards, Hudson storage bed and side tables in color Ash with Bark Stain.

In the narrow bathroom shown in the distance, I added a fun palm print shower curtain to carry the tropical theme through to the next room.

Decor

I kept the same blue groovy lamps as in my previous post. I may change them out later. They were pretty new so I decided to keep them for now. I am on the hunt for some amazing rattan ones though to replace them with.

For the wall art, I chose the Opalhouse Wood Palm Picture Set. These pics add the perfect amount of tan wood to make the stark white walls pop. I think they add the perfect amount of island-style without giving off a vintage coastal look.

One fun solution to keep from getting water rings on your side tables is to use a tray for drinking glasses next to the bed. I fell in love with this cute 8 inch round gold tray and added some fun absorbent coasters.
