I’ve seen these cute Sushi Baby Shower Gifts on Pinterest for a few years and now I had the chance to make one for a friend. A couple of years ago I made some sweet Cupcake Onesies for a friend of mine when she was pregnant with her baby girl.
I am so excited to finally make the boy version! Sushi Onesies! A friend of mine is anxiously waiting for the arrival of her first grandchild, so I hopped at the chance to make this cute gift for a boy!
This craft is super easy to make. In my version, I wanted to buy a cute outfit instead of just onesies or washcloths like the other Pinterest versions. So I bought a three-piece outfit and socks.
It included one long sleeved onesie, one short sleeved onesie, a pair of pants and six-pack of matching socks. I used white felt to cover the onesies and pants since the outfit I bought was blue. Let me show you how I made it~
Sushi Baby Shower Gift
Supplies:
- Carter’s Baby Boys’ 3 Piece Set
, 1 short sleeved onesie, one long sleeved onesie and one pair of pants {6mths}
- Baby Socks (Pack of 6)
{3-12mths}
- Sea Buddies Bath Set
- Felt sheets: light green, dark green, yellow, beige and orange
- 1/4 yard of white felt
- Straight pins
- Rubber bands
- Plastic Divided Tray
{mine is from Publix}
- Take out carton, {I asked my local Chinese food place for one}
- 1 set of Chopsticks
- Rotary Cutter & Mat
Instructions:
Start by folding a onesie in three-quarter sections to make a narrow, 2-inch strip.
Measure and cut the white felt to fold over the onesie strip.
With the open edge side down, cut small strips of orange, yellow and light green felt and pin to one end of the white felt.
Start rolling the end with the colored felt strips, holding tightly as you roll. Add a rubber band to the roll to keep it together snugly.
Cut a strip of black felt to go around the outside of the roll. Pin the ends of the black felt together with straight pins. Repeat with the other two parts of the outfit.
To make the fish sushi roll:
Cover two pair of socks with white felt. Fold the ends inward and pin together. Add a fish from the sea set on top. Cut a thin strip of black felt and wrap it over the fish and pin the ends underneath.
Place the other 4 pairs of socks in the takeout box and cover with beige felt. Add the chopsticks to the takeout box.
Cut the edges of a sheet of dark green felt into points to look like seaweed. Place the dark green sheet of felt on the bottom of the tray. Add the sushi rolls, fish roll and takeout box, cover with clear wrap and your done!
Who wouldn’t want one of these sweet gifts? The Sushi Baby Shower Gift is sure to be a hit at any baby shower!

OMG! This is entirely too adorable. What a fun baby gift to create and receive! I can’t wait to show this to my daughter. She has two pregnant friends right now! Sharing!
Thanks so much, Shirley, It was a hit at the shower I took it too.
This…is one of the cutest things I have ever seen! I love sushi, and if I have a baby shower anytime soon, I am definitely going to do this. I recognize that little pink stingray too, we had the same 10 set sea creature collection, which we have since passed on to my baby nephew :)
Thank you Marissa,
The mom that received it loved it. I think the takeout box makes it so fun.

Um, so this is completely awesome. One of my besties is pregnant with her third, after several miscarriages, so this one is very special…and her favorite is sushi!! I will be doing this for sure! I found you through the Merry Monday link up Party :)
OMG, Kim! This is adorable! I wish I knew someone who was pregnant, so that I could recreate it. :0) I’m pinning it, so that I have it handy when I need it.
