I am teaming up with my friends from Oriental Trading Company for this holiday post and wow, do they have an amazing selection of holiday items this year in their Christmas Shop.
They have ornaments, stocking stuffers, toys, Christmas candy, Ugly Sweater items, Cookie Exchange items, Hanukkah items and more. They are a great source to look for holiday decorations.
I was so excited when I saw that Oriental Trading Company had a Buffalo Plaid Line of items in their Christmas Holiday Shop. The Buffalo Plaid pattern is super popular this year.
I’m seeing it pop up everywhere in the stores. When I saw what they had to choose from, I knew I could create something great for my entryway using it as my theme.
Every year I do a different theme in my entryway. It is a small nook that I really can’t fit anything but a small console table. Working with such a small space can be tough, but I try to glam it up as much as possible so it doesn’t look like an odd empty space.
I chose a set of Snowy Trees, Christmas Sisal Trees, and the Buffalo Plaid Trees to start my holiday vignette. Then I went through my stash of Christmas decor and pulled out all the little trees I have collected over the years.
I used the Buffalo Plaid Fabric Table Runner as the base. Then I just lined the trees up in random order to create a tree forest. Add some Buffalo Check ribbon and a fun Snowball Wreath and the table is done.
I decided the Buffalo Plaid cones needed a little height to look right in my display. Here’s a quick tutorial on how to make a sweet woodsy stand for them out of wood slices.
How to Make Buffalo Plaid Christmas Tree Stands
Supplies:
- Buffalo Plaid Cone Trees
- Wood Dowels: 8mm x 36-inches
- Wood Slices: 5-inch
- Foam: (2) Balls: Size: 3-inch, Foam Disc: Size 3.75 x 1-inch
- Hot Glue & Gun
- Hand Drill & Bit (to match the size of the dowel)
- Hand Saw
Instructions:
Decide on the height of the trees and cut the wood dowels down with a hand saw. I wanted one taller than the other so I cut one dowel shorter than the other.
Drill a hole in the wood slice halfway through the wood.
Make sure your dowel fits in the hole snugly. Use hot glue to secure the dowel in the hole on the wood slice.
These cone trees are hollow inside so I added some foam to secure the dowel and stabilize the tree.
Put the foam ball inside the cone and push it up to the top so it is tight.
Add the foam disc to the bottom of the cone. Gently push the dowel with the wood slice into the center of the foam disc in the bottom of the cone.
Slide the dowel up into the foam ball to secure the base and that’s it! Super easy and now you have a fun woodsy tall tree!
I had to add my vintage sled and skiers sign to complete the ski lodge/woodland feel of this display.

I love your collection of trees! They work perfectly in your entryway!
Thanks so much Emily!
Hi Kim!! Your entryway is so inviting and warm!! Love the assortment of trees and I adore the buffalo check and have incorporated it into my own Christmas decor this year!! My question to you is this, what is the color on the walls??? This is exactly the color i’ve been looking for to put in my kithen with white cabinets. The flooring is a wood plank kind of a weathered grey brown and I think it would be perfect!!! Thank you for your wonderful posts!!
Hi Janice,
The paint color on my walls is Kingsport Grey by Benjamin Moore. It kinda looks brown and then it kind of looks grey. Most of the interior of my house is painted with it. We have it in our basement and it looks fantastic. Glad you liked my entryway! I am lovin the Buffalo Check this year too.
Kim
Your entry way is gorgeous! I love those buffalo checked trees, but I’m really digging that snowball wreath. How’d you make it?
Hi Angela,
I will be posting the tutorial soon for the snowball wreath. Glad you like my Entryway.
