Golden Yellow Harvest Wreath

The weather is cooling down! Yay! Fall is on it’s way. This is my favorite season of the year and it’s finally time to get the holiday decorations out! As you may know from following the blog I love wispy vine wreaths! I tried to steer away from them this year but they always lure me in at the craft store. They are just so well wispy and I love them! This year I decided I would go simple. I have double front doors so if you add too may things to two wreaths the get really busy looking fast. I was in the mood for a straw look this time and to save time and money I spray painted the wreaths yellow to look harvesty {yes I made that word up, but it fits for this craft}. I sprinkled them with some gold glitter, then added an easy chevron ribbon. But don’t be fooled by the simplicity of these golden cuties, they are going to get a Halloween facelift in October so stay tuned for that. Here’s how I made them~

Golden Harvest Wreath

Materials: 1-2 wispy wreaths, 2 can of Valspar Color Radiance spray paint in flat Carmel Honey, Martha Stewart Crafts Fine Glitter, Florentine Gold, Spark Wow! Glitter & Spark! Tinsel in Gold, spray glue, 4″ X 10′ Dark Red Burlap Ribbon, 2.5 x 3 yards of red chevron canvas cut edge ribbon {Hobby Lobby}, hot glue and gun {or fabric glue}, Duck Tape or Command Strips.

Spray your wreath front and back using the whole can of spray paint. These wreaths have so many nooks and crannies you will need almost a whole can for each, so get another can if you are making two. When you have finished spraying the wreath and it is still wet lightly spray the spray glue over it. Shake the glitter over the wreath, {Martha Stewart conveniently puts her glitter in a shakable bottle, love that!!}. I then touched up a little with the spray paint and added a heavier coat of spray glue to the center of the wreath and shake the Spark tinsel glitter on for extra glitz. Let it dry overnight.

Measure how low you want your wreath to hang on your door and cut the red ribbon to size. Mine are 3 1/2 feet long. Lay the Chevron ribbon over the burlap ribbon and hot glue it down the center.

Hot glue ribbon over burlap

I used thin strips of hot glue and pressed the ribbon into the burlap with my hand as it dried to bond it. Burlap is mesh and I wanted the ribbon to not come off after being outside in the elements. So press hard as you glue. {The purple and black chevron ribbon shown in the above pic is for the Halloween version of these wreaths}.

Loop your ribbon the through the wreath. I used a large safety pin to secure the back end of the ribbon to the back side of the front ribbon. I am changing the the ribbon for Halloween and this is an easy way to swap them out. Otherwise you could just glue it if you are leaving the wreath the way it is. You will only put one layer of the ribbon over the door. Two layers made the door not close, lol. I have kids that open that door constantly and I can only imagine the wreath being beaten to death and falling in a couple of hours. So I one layer goes up over the door. I secured it with duct tape so it is nice and secure. Use a colored Duck Tape that matches your door paint or try Command Strips as an alternative if you are leary or put off by the taped look. And that’s it! I am set for fall, except that everything is still green outside. Boo! Super easy, I hope I inspired you to start your seasonal decorating! Happy Fall!
