Instructions:

Before you start, please read: The stencil I am using is called Owls & Arrows in the large size, it is made for repeated use on a large wall or area, for a wallpaper type look. In these two tutorials I am making small decor items but I needed the large arrows and bigger owls for my projects. This is why I cut my stencil into sections using a rotary cutter and mat. Please skip this step if you are going to use the stencil to paint an entire wall. You could paint and/or stencil the wall first, then cut the stencil for use on smaller decor items.

Iron your pillow cover and smooth out any creases from the packaging. Insert a piece of cardboard inside the pillow to make a flat smooth surface to work on. You also need the cardboard so the markers {or paint} do not bleed through the fabric onto the other side of the pillow cover.

Lightly spray your stencil with Elmers adhesive and place it in the center of the pillow cover. Tape the edges down with  masking tape so they are secure.

Hand Draw on fabric w: a stencil madeinaday.com

With a black fabric pen hand draw lines at angles in the center of the cut out shapes of the stencil. Remove the stencil, touch up any areas, add your insert and enjoy! How easy was that? Super cute and looks hand drawn and store bought!

Supplies:

  • Gold trim frame 16 x 20, with 11 x14 mat
  • 14 x 17 inch drawing paper
  • Gold metallic fine tip paint pen
  • Masking tape

Instructions:

Cut two of the different arrow stencils out and line them up evenly next to one another. Tape them together. Place the mat from the frame over the drawing paper to a reference of the center of the paper.

Hint: I took the faux paper mat that came inside my frame and cut it to match the actual mat that goes with the frame. Then I taped the faux mat to my drawing paper for reference on where to place my arrows, so they are centered.

Gently use the paint pen to fill in the stencil. NOTICE: When you use paint pens, to get the paint to flow, you pump the tip to get paint to run down the pen. Do not do this while filling in the arrows, the paint will run underneath the stencil. Pump the pen once and wipe off excess paint. Take your time filling the stencil, if you have to pump the pen, wipe off the excess paint on another sheet of paper before touching the main paper again.

Remove the stencil and wipe off any excess paint from the edges of the stencil and repeat two more times down the center of the paper. Touch up any messy lines and let it dry. Add the drawing to your frame and that’s it! So pretty and again it looks like you bought it at a store! Love it!

    1. Thanks so much Christine! I couldn’t decide which one I liked best to hang in my house! I opted for the gold! I can always switch later though. Thanks for stopping by!

  1. I love the Spring Songbirds stencil! The owl looks like a great project for a beginner, like me. Thanks for the chance to win!

  2. I like Anything shore oriented…. star fish, shells, etc. I love that you did the designs in the voids rather than just pushing paint. Very creative!

  3. I love the Owl! My dream school is Rice, and their mascot is the owl. It’s college app season, so it makes me happy
