I am back with another Thrift Store Challenge project! This time I took a wooden World Market salad bowl I found for a whopping $1.99 and drilled some holes in the sides to create a cute boho bowl plant hanger. This is a great plant hanger addition to my ever growing air plant collection.
I painted the bowl with a bright melon color to make it pop for spring!
DIY Wood Leather Plant Hanger
Supplies:
- Small Wooden Bowl
- Leather Cording
- Acrylic Paint & Brush: Melon
- Washi Tape
- Clear Spray Enamel
- Hand Drill
Instructions:
Drill 2 holes 3 inches apart 1/2 inch below the edge on one side of the bowl. Repeat on the other side of the bowl.
Note: This particular bowl had a plastic coating on the inside and when we drilled the holes it cracked the plastic. I just cracked and peeled the rest of the plastic off.
Using washi tape, tape off triangles on the sides of the bowl. Paint three coats of melon colored paint within the washi taped areas.
Remove the tape and let the paint dry completely. Spray with an enamel spray to seal the paint and keep it from chipping.
Insert one end of the leather cording into one of the holes. Insert the other end of the leather cording into the other hole. Pull leather to tighten. Repeat on the other side of the bowl. Pull all cords up evenly at the top. Tie cording into a knot. Pull the cording to tighten and straighten bowl and that’s it! Just add plants and hang in a sunny spot!
Ooooh I love this! What a fun challenge! is this something you guys do every month?
Thanks Havalah!

I never would have thought to use a salad bowl to create a planter! I will be on the lookout for salad bowls the next trip to the thrift store! We have a large screen porch and a couple of these would look great hanging in there!
I think a really big one would be fun too.

Pretty color choice for your paint. This would be cute hanging by the kitchen window with an herb in it.
I’m thinking the kitchen is a good place for it too Shirley.
This is fun! I’ve been into leather lately, so it may need to go on my to-do list :)
I love leather crafty stuff too Lora. I usually use with jewelry, but now it’s slowly making it’s way into my home decor.
