A few weeks ago I made some fun Stacked Cowrie Shell Bracelets. When researching these beauties, I found out some very interesting things about Cowrie shells. They have some very interesting meanings throughout history. You can read all about cowrie shells, how they are used today and what they were used for in the past decades of history on my previous bracelet post. Just follow the link above.
Today I am showing how to make some matching cowrie shell earrings to wear with those natural wood cowrie bracelets. Cowrie shells are becoming super popular this year in fashion. These cowrie shell dangles are perfect to wear with your summer fashion favs. These earrings are made from jump rings and shells. That is it! Super simple right? Grab some jump rings and pliers and let’s make some earrings!
DIY Dangle Cowrie Shell Earrings
- Cowrie Shells in Multiple Sizes
- Jump Rings Size: (2) 15mm, (20) 8mm
- Gold Chain
- Earring Hooks (2)
- Jewelry Pliers
Directions to make one earring. Set out your shells in 3 rows of three.
- Row one: medium shell > small shell.
- Row two: small >medium > small.
- Row three: medium shell > large shell
- Jump Rings: 1
- Jump Rings: 10
- Chain one: 3 links.
- Chain two: 7 links.
- Chain three: 5 links.
Add jump rings to all of the cowrie shells.
Add the cowrie shells to the chains. Add the chains to the large jump ring with a jump ring. Add an earring hook to the large jump ring. Repeat for the second earring.
Note: The hardest part about making these is to make sure the cowrie shell are all facing the same direction when you add them to the chains. I like my shells all facing out with the seam showing. How you like your shells to look is up to you.
