Quick Purse Fix~ Stop the Slouch!

The Quick Purse Fix ~Made in a DayI found fabulous Steve Madden Satchel purse last Friday at Marshall’s and was immediately smitten! I am a deranged purse addict and it usually takes me weeks before I commit to one. Just ask my shopping buddies! But this cute little beauty got my heart racing pretty fast, so I impulsively bought it and couldn’t have been happier….until….I got home I saw the dreaded slouch. Now I don’t know about you but I always check purses out pretty well before I buy them. I like flat bottom purses with little metal feet and pretty insides. This one passed the test! So imagine my aggravation when I added my 40 lb wallet and makeup case to it and it wilted like a sad beautiful flower.

So here’s the quick fix! I have done this trick before with other handbags using cardboard but, after a while they bend and revert back to the slouch. So this time I improvised and used a stiff plastic lid from a bead/craft box and it came out great!

Materials: Stiff plastic lid, cardboard or any type of material that will hold it’s shape through wear and tear, sharp scissors (I used the strong kitchen type) or box cutter, ruler and a washable marker.

Cutting Plastic

Take your plastic and measure the bottom of your handbag. Mark your lines with the magic marker. Cut out your shape with sharp scissors. Trim slowly so not to crack the plastic. Trim the edges and round the corners off. Wash off the magic marker~ you don’t want to ruin the inside fabric and insert in the bottom of the handbag.Inside Purse

You could also go one step further and decoupage the plastic with fabric. I personally like the fact that it is clear so I can see if items get trapped underneath but to each his own. And that’s it!! I am just so glad this easy fix worked and  I didn’t have to return it. I hope this tip helps you too!

  1. THIS. IS. ABSOLUTELY. AWESOME. I can’t even begin to tell you how awesome this is!!! I also have a 40 pound wallet (or so)… in fact, when I put my purse on my passenger seat with my wallet in it, my car beeps at me to tell me that my passenger isn’t wearing a seat belt! Yep… but this isn’t the worst of the problem, because, you know, I can always put my heavy purse on the floor. But what I HATE is buying a nicely structured purse and then walking around with it looking like a sloppy hobo bag because the items inside make it all slouchy. I am TOTALLY doing this trick!!! I’m off to pin this….

    THANK YOU FOR SHARING!!!!

  3. This is a great idea. What I hate most about the slouch is that everything is on top of each other in my purse when I reach in to get something. This would solve that too. May I feature this on my blog
