If you are an imitation crab lover like me then you must know about My Favorite Dreamy Seafood Salad Recipe! Try this pretty perfect copycat of Publix’s popular Deluxe Seafood salad recipe. This recipe is number one in my arsenal of yummy salad recipes.seafood salad, crab salad,

I have been in love with the Publix Grocery Store Deluxe Seafood Salad for years. We moved to North Carolina from Florida in 2007 and a couple of years ago Publix moved here too! Yay!

Something seems fishy, to me the seafood salad here in North Carolina seems slightly different from the Florida version, maybe they updated the recipe from the original a bit or maybe they use different mayonnaise up here. The recipe is top secret at Publix, so who knows what the real verdict is.

The North Carolina version has small shrimp in it and to me has a little too much mayonnaise. I’m ok with the small shrimp but the mayo needs to be toned down for us.

Now,  we also have a Which Wich Sandwich Shop here and their Crab Salad is pretty darn good too. So I tried to combine these two recipes to get that perfect blend of mayo and seasonings. Here is my version of my favorite Seafood Salad Recipe~

Imitation Crab & Shrimp salad recipe

Ingredients

  • 1- 1.5 lb Imitation Crab
  • 4 oz can of tiny shrimp, optional
  • 1 Small sweet onion, 1/4 cup, optional
  • 2 Celery stalks diced
  • 1/4 cup of mayonnaise, I use Hellmann's
  • 1/4 cup of sour cream
  • tsp Salt & Pepper to taste, start with 1/4 tsp each
  • 1/4 tsp to taste of dried dill

Instructions

  1. Remove crab from package and separate flakes.
  2. Chop and shred the crab in a large bowl.
  3. Add all other ingredients and mix well.
  4. Refrigerate 2-3 hours or overnight to blend flavors.
  5. Serve with crackers for a snack or deli rolls for a crab salad sandwich.

Notes

Adjust the mayo as needed. You can also add a teaspoon of lime juice for added zing. You can also add pasta shells for a great summer salad.

do you think they may use a “salad dressing” like Miracle Whip or the like??? Dukes mayo ?

No, I do not think my Publix uses Miracle Whip. You can use whatever mayo you like to make the recipe your own.

Thank you Kim! I have been trying to decipher the Publix seafood salad secret to the mayo…my favorite part of it. not too tangy and not too much. Sour cream and Mayo!!! of course! This copycat was pretty perfect.

This is excellent. I used Just Mayo by Hampton Creek and greek yogurt. Perfect for an appetizer or eat it with a fork. Yum! Thank you!

I’ve been looking for a recipe to make. Going to try this one today.
Never made it before, have always bought from grocery store but can no longer find any that I like. Will let you know how it turns out. Never thought of making it as a sandwitch. We’ll see. ;)

I like this recipe. Publix does taste different (I grew up and still live in Florida). It is very good. There are so many variations that taste good but I feel to get it closest to the big “P” is less is more. When you taste publix seafood salad you taste the sweetness of the seafood (imitation or not). So don’t over season. Just keep it simple.

Made this and made it again! And plan on making over and over lol! The weather is getting so hot and I’ve been searching for something besides pasta salads, chicken salad, etc. and this was a wonderful alternative! I have a multi generation family to feed from 80 year old mom down to 2 year old grandson. And I am happy to say all were happy. Mom wants me to fix this once a week and she’s my most picky eater! Just wanted to say thanks so much for the recipe! You made my family happy and that’s a really wonderful thing!
