I’d love to share one of my favorite decorating ideas with you! One of the very first projects I made when I started this DIY blog was a collection of seasonal twig wreath designs that could easily be updated throughout the year.

Since my home has double front doors, buying two new wreaths every season just wasn’t in the budget. Not to mention, who has space to store a different wreath for every holiday?

That’s when I came up with the idea of using a simple wispy grapevine wreath as my base. Instead of buying new wreaths over and over again, I decorated the same wreath for fall, transformed it into a Halloween wreath, and later gave it a cozy winter makeover. It saved money, saved storage space, and gave me an excuse to get creative with each season.

Pumpkin Harvest Autumn Wispy Wreath

Fall Twig Wreath

The first in the series was a simple fall wreath filled with warm autumn colors. While shopping for the floral stems, I picked up a few extra Halloween picks and orange feathers for my next project. Planning ahead made switching seasons quick and easy.

This fall design quickly became one of my most popular door hangers. The mix of golden leaves, orange foliage, and a bright white pumpkin creates a look that’s simple, cozy, and perfect for welcoming autumn.

When it was time to decorate for Halloween, I didn’t need a brand-new twig base. I simply painted the pumpkin, swapped out the floral stems, and added bold yellow and orange accents to create a festive Halloween wreath.

It has just the right amount of spooky charm without being over the top. It’s elegant enough for everyday decorating while still adding plenty of Halloween fun to the front porch.

One of the most loved in the collection is my winter version featuring bright red cardinals nestled among snowy branches. The contrast of the vibrant birds against the white winter accents creates such a peaceful, welcoming look.

Since sharing it years ago, this one has become a favorite with my readers. Many people believe that seeing red cardinals is a sign that passed loved ones are nearby and that they symbolize love, hope, and peace.

I didn’t know that when I first made the wreath, but after having a memorable cardinal experience myself, I can understand why so many people connect with it. The heartfelt comments on this project over the years have been incredibly touching.

The following fall, I decided to start fresh with two new grapevine wreaths and created a pair of cheerful harvest wreaths featuring yellow chevron ribbon. At the time, chevron was everywhere, but you could easily substitute any ribbon that matches your own decorating style today.

This project couldn’t be easier. A little spray paint, gold glitter, beautiful ribbon, and a few floral stems completely transformed an inexpensive wreath into something simple yet looked custom-made.

Once Halloween rolled around again, I gave those harvest wreaths another quick makeover. I added glittery Halloween floral picks, changed the ribbon color, and tucked little bats throughout the branches to make it look like they were roosting in the trees.

It’s amazing how just a handful of inexpensive decorations can completely change the look of the same twig wreath from one season to the next.

My favorite project in the entire collection almost ended up in the trash! One of my old wispy wreaths had started falling apart, and most of the top branches had broken off. Just before tossing it, I realized the remaining twigs looked like the perfect bird’s nest.

That inspiration turned into one of my favorite Halloween wreath designs. The dramatic nest creates an elegant yet spooky look that’s perfect for an entryway or even as indoor Halloween party décor. It definitely catches people’s attention!
