Creepy Monster Halloween Chex Mix

Halloween is just around the corner, and that means it’s time to start making spooky snacks! This Monster trail Mix (AKA Halloween muddy buddies) recipe is the perfect treat to munch on while waiting on the big day to come.
This yummy mix is made of cereal, pretzels, various candies, and held together with candy coating! You then let it harden and break it into chunks like bark candy.

Optional Ingredients for Chex Mix Recipes
- Cereal options: Original Chex mix or other varieties like Chocolate Chex Mix. Original Cherrios or Honey Nut Cherrios.
- Pretzel options: Stick pretzels or mini twisted pretzels.
- Candy options: M&M’s, Reeses Pieces, candy corn, mini marshmallows, crushed peppermints, coconut flakes, mini peanut butter cups, caramels, or any candy you may like.
- Chocolate base options: Candy melt wafers. White, dark, semi sweet or milk chocolate baking or regular chips.
This is a super easy snack to make and only takes a few minutes and is ready to eat in an about an hour.
Here’s how you can make your own batch at home:
Monster Halloween Chex Mix
INGREDIENTS
- 2 cups of Chex Mix cereal
- 1 cup of Cheerios cereal
- ½ cup of pretzel sticks
- ½ cup of yellow and orange M&Ms
- ¼ cup of candy corn
- ¼ cup of mini marshmallows
- 2 Tbsp of candy eye balls
- 6 oz of white candy wafer melts, (you can use white chocolate chips (1-2) 12oz bags)
INSTRUCTIONS
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Spread out an even layer of Chex Mix, Cheerios cereal and pretzels sticks on the parchment paper
- Place the candy melts in a microwave safe bowl and heat it in the microwave at 15 second intervals. Stir in between intervals until the candy becomes smooth.
- Pour the melted candy mixture over the cereal mixture.
- Top with M&Ms, candy corn, marshmallows and candy eyes.
- Mix everything together with a spoon or spatula.
- Place baking sheet into the refrigerator until the candy hardens (about an hour).
- Break into pieces and enjoy!
MAKE AHEAD: Place them in an airtight container and keep at room temperature for up to 3 weeks.
FREEZER: Place them in an airtight container and freeze for up to 3 months.
